Is participation in sport a level playing-field?

Sport can help improve the quality of life for individuals. But how accessible is sport and are all groups given the same opportunities to participate? In the current economic climate, are young people able to reap the benefits that sport can offer? Are some sports more exclusive than others? Does this help to reinforce stereotypes?
