An Incredibly Brief History of Political Satire

Saturday 18 August, 10:30-11:30, Committee Room 3, FREE

As long as people have been in power, there have been wise crackers mocking the people in power. From Greek playwright Aristophanes' through Dante to Shakespeare, satirists have ridiculed politicians. Punch Magazine, Private Eye, Yes Minister, and now online spoofs such as The Daily Mash are all part of a shared cultural fabric that mocks those in power. Is Satire a puppy dog or Rottweiler? Can the Satirists influence real change and how far can/should satire go? Join Chair Susan Morrison, journalist and comedian, with panellists The Guardian cartoonist Martin Rowson; Tom Shields journalist The Herald; and comedians Paul Sneddon and Liam Mullone.

In association with Scotland's Festival of History.
