The Sounds of Silence - Complacent Scotland, Undemocracy and Unspace

Scotland thinks of itself as a radical, inclusive, egalitarian country, which cuts down those who get 'too big for their boots' and which is more collectivist and socialist. This comforting story reinforces the narrow bandwidth of public debate, the dominance of institutional Scotland, and crushing conformity and deadweight across the public realm. Chaired by Eileen Reid, Head of Participation, Glasgow School of Art, panellists Andy Wightman (author of The Poor Had No Lawyers) and Gerry Hassan (author of The Strange Death of Labour Scotland) ask why this has happened and what we can actively do to challenge the practices of undemocracy and unspace that exist today.
